Obituary of Daniel C. Box

DANIEL C. BOX, JR., 83, passed away January 23, 2015 at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta. Maine. He was born in Wesson, Mississippi in 1931, to Effie (Reed) Box and Daniel C. Box, Sr. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Danita Botts, his only child, Laura Chakravarty Box, and his son-in-law,Banibrata Victor Chakravarty. Daniel enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean War. He served in the Military Sea Transport Service and as a chaplain’s assistant. After the war, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in radio broadcasting from San Jose State College. He worked briefly as a radio announcer, and then became a contracts administrator for the aerospace and computing industries in Southern California. He loved airplanes and trains. He excelled at the game of tennis, which he played competitively in high school and college. He had a mellifluous singing voice and did a credible impression of Frank Sinatra on karaoke nights, much to the delight of his friends. He had a soft spot for hummingbirds, a calico cat named Callie, and a Pomeranian-Cocker Spaniel mix named Sweetheart.
