Obituary of Chauncey Clyde Lancaster

AUGUSTA Chauncey Clyde Lancaster passed away peacefully on Thursday at Togus Veterans Administration with his family by his side. Chauncey was born in Brownville Maine December 7th 1919. He was the son of Earl and Myrtle (Butterfield) Lancaster of Milo Maine. Chauncey enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Crew also known as the CCC’s in Jefferson in 1938. He served 2 years as a truck driver and lifeguard while in the CCC’s. In 1940 he married the love of his life, Edith Duplessis, who passed away in 2000. He was a radar technician during WWII on the USS Jenks Destroyer Escourt 665. He retired from Togus VA as attendant supervisor after 30 years of service. He joined the Augusta Police Dept. where he served for 20 years and retired as Lieutenant of the Reserves. Chauncey was also Kennebec County Deputy Sheriff, a charter member of The Blue Knights Motorcycle Club and a firearms dealer. Chauncey enjoyed trading anything and everything with people he knew. He loved riding his motorcycle around town even in his late 80’s. He lived with his son David and daughter in law Donna for over 10 years. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Edith Lancaster of Augusta, his father Earl and mother Myrtle, brother Vinal Lancaster all of Milo Maine and his sister Laura Ireland of Mapleton, Maine. He is survived by his son David and wife Donna Lancaster of So. China Maine; grandson Shannon and wife Holly Lancaster and two great grandchildren David and Drew of Scarborough Maine; grand daughter Shelly, husband Chris and great grandson Corbin Wescott of Vassalboro, Maine. There will be no services until spring where there will be committal services at Mount Hope Cemetery in Augusta Maine. Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
