Obituary of Roxanne Greta Horne

Roxanne Greta Horne, 60, of Woolwich, passed away at her home on Saturday March 21, surrounded by the loving care of her family. Born on November 25, 1954 in Dexter, Maine to parents Elwin and Phyllis Burtchell, she spent her childhood in Dover Foxcroft making many wonderful childhood memories: riding horses with friends, playing in the band, and spending time with family. She was a 1973 graduate of Foxcroft Academy. In 1974 she was married to Vance Horne. They raised their daughter, Mandy, and spent many happy years together. Throughout her life, Roxanne was passionate about learning, receiving a degree in dental hygiene from Middlesex Community College in 1981 and a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Maine Augusta in 1989. She was a hard worker and worked in both fields, at different times, for many years. She had a multitude of hobbies and interests throughout her life, always keeping herself busy with various projects including knitting, sewing, sailing, carpentry, dancing, and music. She taught herself to play the fiddle and then took on the rewarding project of making one for herself. Roxanne was a wonderful grandmother to her three granddaughters. She formed special bonds and made meaningful memories with each of them that will last them a lifetime. Roxanne was a lover of animals and in recent years enjoyed the company of many. In 2011 she fulfilled her dream of owning a horse again and bought Deegan, a Haflinger. She spent many happy hours grooming, riding, and caring for him. Roxanne is survived by her mother, Phyllis Burtchell, daughter, Mandy, and son-in-law, James, of West Sussex UK and three granddaughters, Eva, Penelope, and Anna. She is also survived by her brother, Ken Burtchell and sister-in-law Victoria Burtchell as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday March 28th at Mae’s Cafe in Bath at 10am to share memories and enjoy the company of those who loved and cared for this wonderful lady. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to CHANS Hospice Care or Coastal Humane Society.
