Obituary of Charles Pinkerton

KENNEBUNK - Charles Pinkerton, Jr., 91, died April 21, 2015 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough following a fall. He had been a resident of Huntington Common Reminiscence unit for almost 3 years. Charles was born in Baltimore, MD to Charles and Sarah Harrison Pinkerton of Mount Kisco, NY and attended Rippowam and Lenox schools, graduating from Williams College in 1948 where he was a member of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity. His studies were interrupted during WW II when he served as a Marine in the South Pacific. He remained an enthusiastic and active alumnus of the class of 1945. He settled in Norwalk, CT to raise his family, commuting to NYC where he was a sales manager at International Paper Company. He enjoyed his travels throughout the eastern coast and Mexico, looking forward especially to his annual sojourn to fly fish on the Miramichi which he continued past his retirement from IP in 1982. Charles was a member of the Sons of the Revolution and attended events with his father, brother and son. He spent time in the summer on Squam Lake in NH where he had spent his honeymoon. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucy and his three children, Sarah Pinkerton and her husband Paul Bonneau of Cape Porpoise, Charles Pinkerton III of Kennebunkport and Anne Pinkerton of Kennebunk. He also leaves his beloved brother Peyton R.H. Pinkerton and his wife Roxanna of Pleasantville, NY, his niece Roxanne Slaughter of AZ, nephews Tom Slaughter of NYC, George Pinkerton of NJ and Peyton Pinkerton, Jr. and his wife Anne Pinkerton of MA, his grandsons, John Harrison Pinkerton Henson and Eliot Randolph Pinkerton Henson and their father Frank Henson of CT. Charles is predeceased by his sisters Jane Carey Pinkerton and Caroline Webster Pinkerton. A service is to be held at the Church on the Cape in Cape Porpoise on May 2, 2015 at 11:00am. The family wishes to thank the staff at Gosnell and Huntington Common for their devoted and loving attention.
