Obituary of Elmin H. Mitchell

MONTVILLE, MAINE – Elmin H. Mitchell, 86, passed away April 22, 2015 after a 7-month battle with cancer. Born in Morrill on March 21, 1929 to Charles Mitchell and Bessie Walsh, Elmin was one of nine children. He will be remembered as a truck driver, bobcat and coon hunter, and farmer as a young man. He was a grader operator for many years. He was also known for playing the saxophone with the Blue Goose Orchestra and with other groups. In the 70s and 80s he owned several airplanes and enjoyed flying. In his retirement he dedicated his time to old-fashioned farming with draft horses. His last work with horses was doing carriage rides at Wildwood Stable at Acadia for six summers. He was active in the Montville Historical Society and took part in the Frye Mountain Carriage Tours each fall. He is survived by his wife, Edna, of 68 years; one son, Brian and wife Gloria; their children: Delta Chase and husband Don, Kelly Stacey and husband James, Mary Stacey and husband Brian, and three great-grandchildren: Jesse Stacey, Allison Gallant, and Danny Cseak, V. He is also survived by brother Leon Mitchell and sister Joyce Gregoire. Services will be held May 1, 2015 at 7pm at Liberty Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Steve Daniels.
