Obituary of Owen Larrabee

Owen Sherwood Larrabee Sr., 78, passed away on May 1, 2015 at Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, Maine. He was born on August 18, 1936 in Swanville, Maine to Percy and Gladys (Curtis) Larrabee. Owen grew up in Swanville, Maine. He married Sandra (Pappas) Johnston in 1962 in Brunswick, Maine. They were happily married for 53 years. He joined the Army and served in France working in motor transport. He was honorably discharged in 1959. Owen accepted Christ in 1983 and was baptized in 1984 when he became a member of Swanville Community Church where he attended for many years. Owen was mechanically minded and loved working on practical solutions to everyday problems. At the age of 12 he rebuilt his first car engine. From then on he continually worked on engines and vehicles of all kinds. He used and continued to sharpen these skills throughout his life. He drag raced cars in California where he worked, opening and managing service stations. Upon return to Maine he drove a truck for Maplewood Poultry, Penobscot Poultry and worked as a plant mechanic at Penobscot Frozen Foods. Owen was the last of his generation and was preceded in death by his parents Percy and Gladys Larrabee; sisters Ruth Smith & Arlene Annis; brothers Shirley Larrabee, Harold Larrabee, Alton Larrabee and daughter Dolores (Johnston) Stevens. Owen is survived by his wife Sandra Larrabee of Swanville, Maine; his daughter Linda (Johnston) Bizier and husband Paul of China, sons: Thomas Johnston and wife Donna of Searsport, Larry Larrabee and wife Tami of Isanti, Minnesota, Owen S. Larrabee, Jr. and wife Kathy of Brooks, Greg Larrabee and wife Tisha of Brooks. There are ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many loved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Swanville Community Church, 15 Town House Road, Swanville, Maine at 2:00 P.M., May 9, 2015. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Swanville Community Church, Swanville, Maine.
