Obituary of Betsy H. Stevens

Betsy (Hanna) Stevens, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2015 in Augusta at Maine Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Betsy was born at home in Belgrade, daughter of Clinton L Hanna and Frances (Spaulding) Hanna. She attended school in Belgrade and graduated from Belgrade High School in 1953. Betsy held several jobs as a secretary as a younger woman but found her passion when she opened a day care in Belgrade. She was one of the first licensed day cares in the state of Maine. She cared for many local children from the time they were born until they no longer needed her care. She ran the day care until her retirement at 65. After her retirement she remained active in working with the Salvation Army, the Belgrade Lioness Club, and her local church. Betsy is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Robert Stevens, and five siblings: Ellen Poulin, Ruth Bolduc, Paul Hanna, Faye Pinkham, and Frances Bickford. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Anne Healy of Durham, Maine; her grandchildren: Heather Healy-Calhoun, Aaron Sorenson, Todd Healy, Sarah Healy, and Micah Healy and her great grandchildren: Zachery Calhoun and Hannah Healy. Betsy is also survived by assorted nieces and nephews and her special friends, Nicole, Jerry, and Valeda Scribner. Betsy was most recently living in Winthrop as a resident of Heritage House where she made many friends and acquaintances. There will be no calling hours per Betsy’s request. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
