Obituary of Jean E. Bethune

Jean Elaine (Wason) Bethune, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Boardman Cottage on Islesboro, ME. She was the loving wife of Jacob “Buddy” Bethune. Jean and Buddy celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on January 12th, 2015. She was a kind and caring mother to five children, Diane, Brian, Carol, Bonnie and Glenn. She delighted in her nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Born in Chester, NH, Jean was raised on the Wason family farm. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Marjorie (Smith) Wason. Jean is survived by her sister Priscilla Harvey of Dover, DE and her brother Robert Wason of Danbury, NH. She was predeceased by her daughter Diane, her son Glenn and her grandson Joe. Jean will be remembered for her kindness to everyone. She was a homemaker, Sunday school teacher, Cub Scout leader and active in both the Chester Congregational and the Islesboro Second Baptist Churches. She cared for the neighbor's children and worked in the Chester School lunchroom. Jean loved to work with her hands, cooking, sewing and painting; she loved animals and making crafts. She enjoyed quilting with her friends at the Islesboro Sewing Circle and walking along the beach and nature trails on the island and the paths around Wason Pond. Jean loved the outdoors, music, working in her flower gardens and in the woods around her home. She will be remembered with love and deeply missed. Services to be held at Second Baptist Church on Islesboro, ME Oct. 10, 2015 at 11 am and at the Great Hill Cemetery in Chester, NH Oct. 24, 2015 at 11 am. Memorials can be made to the Second Baptist Church or to the Conservation Commission for Wason Pond Conservation and Recreation Area in Chester, NH.
