Obituary of Maynard H. Oliver

Maynard H. "Mo" Oliver, 78, husband of the late Harriet Oliver, passed away peacefully Saturday October 31, 2015 in Deer Isle with his loving family at his side. He was born April 23, 1937, son of Lawrence and Esther (Robbins) Oliver. His career path took many different directions, some of which were: master stone cutter at several quarries, lobster and scallop fisherman, as captain of his own boat and as a crew member on many other boats. He was an avid sports fan, but especially a huge red Sox fan. He was also an avid gardener. He loved spending the summers in his vegetable garden. What he most enjoyed about gardening was giving all the vegetables away to his many friends around the island. When he didn't have enough of his own vegetables to share, he would help himself to the gardens of his children when he didn't think they were looking. In addition to his parents, Maynard was predeceased by wife and love of his life Harriet, daughter Kris Ann Oliver, very special grandson Jarvis Oliver, son-in-law Ricky Shepard, and brothers Lawrence Oliver Jr. and Elden Oliver. He is survived by his four children: Brent Oliver and his wife Susan of Deer Isle, Sonda Klemenz and her husband Keith of Little Deer Isle, Gidget Fagerberg and her husband Eric of Attleboro, MA, and Scott Oliver and his wife Rita of Deer Isle. Maynard was an AMAZING grandfather to Jennifer, Kristina, Hollan, Elizabeth, Kasey, Lindsay, Lucas, Mason, Ethan, and Richard and his honorary grandson Leon. Also to his great-grandchildren Germanie, Jaden, Campbell, Julian, Chelsea and Caylee. Also survived by brothers: Bruce Oliver of Stonington, Benny Oliver and his wife Debby of Stonington, Clarence Oliver and his wife Anita of Stonington; sister-in-law Helen Oliver of Stonington, brother-in-law Del Gross of Stonington, sister-in-law Nancy Bray of Stonington and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be Saturday November 14, 2015 at 3:00 pm at the Community of Christ Church, Burnt Cove Road, Stonington with Cheryl Brown officiating. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Congregational Church in Deer Isle for their fuel assistance for island residents program.
