Obituary of Geraldine W Jose

Unity—Geraldine B.(Wood) Jose, 93, died on June 8, 2016. She was born in Belfast, the daughter of Louville S. Wood and Avis (Marriner) Wood. She moved to Waterville at a young age and graduated from Waterville High School. She married Richard Jose in 1945 and they moved to Vassalboro where they operated a dairy farm and later a laying hen farm until 1969. They moved to Stockton Springs and started a commercial greenhouse business there and eventually moved to Thorndike where they continued the business until 1990 when they retired and settled in Unity. Jerry was an animal lover and a horsewoman with a great interest in competitive trail riding. She and her horse, Gina, won numerous awards in the 1970’s. She had horses for her entire life and was the inspiration and mentor for her granddaughters who inherited her love of horses and who passed that love along to their children. She also enjoyed many outdoor activities, reading, card games and being a ringleader for fun at family gatherings. Jerry embraced life and found joy in many things, especially her family. She was a member of the Congregational Church in Thorndike and held various offices there. Besides her parents, Jerry was predeceased by her husband, Richard Jose; brother, Allan Wood; grandson, Jacob Enslin; infant great-grandsons, Duncan and Kenyon Jose; and son-in-law, Theodore Enslin. Jerry is survived by her children, Patrice Allen and husband William; Alison Enslin; Richard Jose and wife Mary; sisters, Janice Sherburne; Jeanne Searles; Marjorie Cormier; Mary Labbe; Maureen Brown and brother, Alfred Wood; uncle Stanley Wood and nephew John Wood; grandchildren, Nathan Allen; Kathryn Gibbs and husband Kyle; Jessica Clark and husband Matthew; Nicholas Jose and wife Katie; Jody Jose; and great-grandchildren, Anna Gibbs, Will Gibbs, Keegan Clark, and Addelyne Jose. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank the staff at Lakewood Care Center, Waterville, for their kind, thoughtful and professional care of Jerry and her family during her stay with them. A private memorial service will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a humane shelter of your choice.
