Obituary of Nadine R. Varrin

Nadine Ruth (Miller) Varrin 1923 – 2019 Nadine, 95, died Friday May 24, 2019 at Northern Lights Inland Hospital, Waterville, Maine. She was born in Hanover, PA to Alton T. and Velva (Fuhrman) Miller. She graduated from Eichelberger High School in Hanover in 1941; and as a proud nurse from Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing (now part of Drexel Univ.) in Philadelphia, PA. and completed a Nurses’ Refresher course at Cafritz Hospital in Washington, D.C.. In 1949, Nadine married Rene Douglas Varrin. Following his graduation from Temple Dental School (Philadelphia, PA) in 1950, she was an Air Force wife for twenty years. Nadine made each posting a home whether in Alabama, England, Louisiana; MA, NC, Newfoundland in Canada, California, Alabama (again) or Maryland. She then became a professor’s wife in NJ when Rene returned to teach at Temple Dental School. They retired to Camden, ME in 1982 to their twentieth home and most loved. . Rene died in 2001 and Nadine lived alone until 2018 when she moved to Waterville, ME to be near her daughter. Nadine loved her family and friends; keeping an immaculate home and yard; corresponding with everyone by snail mail, e-mail, or phone; her knitting group; feeding people and SPORTS, especially baseball. She was a Phillies and Flyers fan but became a Red Sox and Bruins fan once in Maine. She is survived by her son Rene Denis Varrin and wife, Stephanie, of Brentwood NH ; daughter Michelle M. (Varrin) Holmes of Waterville ME; her four grandchildren – Christine (Holmes) Guerrera and, husband, Ryan, of Methuen MA., Joseph H. Holmes and wife, Marion (Blackwell), of Brockton MA, Matthew D. Varrin of Watertown MA and Lindsey (Varrin) Vu and husband, Tuan, of Waltham MA, and her two great grandchildren – Arya C. Holmes and Kenneth R. Holmes of Brockton MA. Also survived by her sister-in-law Nancy (Albright) Miller of NM, niece Maraget (Miller) Michael of NM, nephews Jake Nauss of TX, Jeff Nauss of CA, and Robert D. Varrin of NJ; Jeannette (Pouliquin) Dorber of DE; Christine (Pouliquin) Szphulsky of NJ; cousin Raymond Miller of PA. Also survived by special friends Helen Muntz Behler of PA; Pamela (Howard) Varrin of MA and many true friends from their Air Force days and on Pearl Street, Camden. She is predeceased by her parents; husband; brother Laverne Miller; sister Freda (Miller) Nauss and husband, Jim; cousin Richard Weaver and wife, Thelma; plus so many other relatives and friends – her circle was closing. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Inland Hospital who took such special care of Nadine and made a difficult time bearable for her family. Nadine wishes to be buried beside Rene in a private grave side service at the Veterans Cemetery; Augusta ME which will take place at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a CHARITY of YOUR CHOICE. The family requests that memories of their Mom and Dad be shared whenever mutual friends and family gather so they will live on.
