Obituary of Ardith J. Christensen

Ardith J. (Burns) Christensen, 76, of Jonesboro, Maine died on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Ross Manor in Bangor, Maine after suffering a traumatic fall at home. Ardith was born at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH, on November 16, 1941, and was the daughter of the late Rev Richard and Edna Burns. Ardith is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Bernard (Chris) Christensen of Jonesboro, Maine her daughter, Jennifer Christensen of Wakefield, Massachusetts, her 4 grandchildren, Traci Christensen-Johnson of Ellsworth, Maine Kathryn Christensen of Whitneyville, Maine Chad Christensen of Winterport, Maine and Nila Murugan of Wakefield, Massachusetts, 4 great-grandchildren, Kadence Alley, Damien Johnson and Kiera Johnson of Ellsworth, Maine and Layla Christensen of Addison, Maine, her former daughter in law and special friend, Laura Davis of Cherryfield, Maine, brother, Carl Burns of Rumford, Maine, sister, Susan Aguiar of Goffstown, New Hampshire, niece, Laura Aguiar of Glendale, Arizona and nephews Richard Aguiar of North Attleboro, Massachusetts and Matthew Aguiar of Bedford, New Hampshire. Ardith is predeceased by her son, Michael F. Christensen. Ardith and her husband, Chris, enjoyed camping and were members of the HRRVC club, Holiday Ramblers beginning in 1989. Ardith was the Maine State Manager for several years starting around 1994 before sitting on the National Board for Region 1 from 2001 to 2005 and the National Secretary from 2004-2005. Once her term was complete, she went back to being the Maine State Manager. Ardith and Chris have traveled to almost all of the continental United States. For the past 12 years, they have spent their winters down in Alamo, Texas to avoid the long cold New England winters. Ardith was also an avid collector of antique glass from very early on in her life. For many years, she sold and collected salt cellar antiques and had most recently moved to collecting Flower Frogs (or as she called them Naked Ladies). Her other passion was quilting and quite often you could find her at home working on any one of several quilting projects. Ardith wore many hats including teacher, nurse, counselor, cook, maid, artist, writer, and musician just to name a few. There was nothing she couldn’t do whether as a wife, mother, grandmother or the Maine State Manager for Holiday Ramblers. You name it she could do it, although she never bragged about any of her accomplishments. Special thanks to all the staff of the Machias Ambulance Service, Life Flight Services, the nurses, doctors and their associates at Downeast Community hospital as well as Eastern Maine Medical Center, Ross Manor rehabilitation services for all of their caring and help, and Direct Cremations of Maine for their support.
