Obituary of George Edward Bursey

September 19, 2018, - Our dad, George E. Bursey, of Trenton, went home to be with the Lord. George was born in Cambridge, MA, the son of Herbert and Annie Bursey. At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was trained as an Airedale. Upon finishing his service with the Navy, Dad embarked on a career in aircraft maintenance at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts. As a civilian employee of the U.S. Air Force, Dad became a supervisor at an early age and eventually ran the jet engine overhaul and test facility at Hanscom. In the latter years of his career, he helped to oversee government contractors working on projects for the Air Force. In addition to working full time at the base, for many years he had a side business that took up many nights and weekends. In 1982, George retired from his career at the base and moved to Trenton with his beloved wife Gloria and their two youngest children. He took great pleasure in landscaping and maintaining their retirement property. He had always loved the water, so being near the ocean in Maine was a special treat for Dad. While retired, Dad and Mom also traveled a lot in their RV. They found a home away from home in Titusville, FL, where the spent over 25 winters and developed lifelong friendships. Dad was a tireless worker, even in retirement. He always had a project to work on, and he even went back to work for a while helping a friend who was a carpenter. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for a number of years. As his children, we all benefited from the lessons of hard work taught by Dad. Dad did love his home and his projects, but he had a special love for his wife Gloria. They were rarely seen apart. She died in 2014, and he missed her greatly. We are going to miss them both so very much. Dad also loved his children and grandchildren. When asked how he wanted to be remembered, he wrote: "That I loved my wife Gloria dearly, and that our children and grandchildren meant more to me than I could wish for. God bless them all". Dad was predeceased by his wife, his son George Bursey, his daughter Linda Bursey, grandson Ryan Parsons, and all of his siblings. Dad is survived by five children: Robin Parsons and her husband Kenny; Scott Bursey and his wife Terri; Debbie Jones; Michael Bursey and his wife Shelly; and Mark Bursey and his wife Kimberly. George is also survived by granddaughters Shauna Parsons, Caitlin Parsons, Madelyn Bursey, Emma Bursey, Keri Lavoie, Kristen Pierce, Melissa Oliveira, Dale Horsman and Christine Webb, as well as grandsons George Bursey, Jr., Michael Bursey, Alex Bursey, and Evan Bursey. George is survived by several great-grand children, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind long-time, cherished friends. A graveside service will be held in the spring. We love you Dad, and we miss you.
