Obituary of Rosemary Elaine Begley

Rosemary Elaine (Farnham) Begley, 63, passed away on February 20, 2018, at home in Bucksport with her closest family, after a short but courageous fight with cancer. She was born in Castine on August 17, 1954, beloved daughter of Alton Farnham and Phila (Varnum) Witham. Rosemary attended Penobscot Elementary School, then Bucksport High School after that. She had various jobs throughout her life, including 23 years as the secretary at Penobscot Elementary school, tour guide at The Castine Historical Museum, grooming horses, stocking shelves, and always gardening. For the last 7 years she worked for The University of Maine Augusta, Bangor Campus, in the students with disabilities support office. Rosemary grew up in Penobscot, on the shore of The Penobscot River, where she loved to play on the rocks, dig for crabs, ride her horse “Prince” and listen to the Beatles. Later on she discovered gardening and thoroughly enjoyed being on her hands and knees in the dirt, planting flowers and vegetables and watching them grow. She was a lover of Egyptian artifacts, museums, and anything medieval. She loved to read, and enjoy her morning coffee on the porch listening to the birds and watching for deer. She spent countless hours carting her son, James, and all his drums to various events and never complained once. She loved to watch NASCAR with the cat curled up in her lap, always hoping her “24” would win. She loved to spend time with her grandson, Owen, having picnics, walks in the woods, playing cards, or just snuggling on the couch. She would make as many pumpkin pies as she could carry for Thanksgiving. She loved to laugh and make inside jokes that most people wouldn’t get. She was always giving, and made a difference in the lives of everyone that knew her. Rosemary is survived by her long-time loving boyfriend Leif Felix of Bucksport; her son James Begley of Gorham; her beloved grandson Owen Begley of Gorham; her mother and stepfather Phila and Walter Witham of Penobscot; her sister-in-law Sally Farnham; her special Aunt Jane; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, and cousins that loved her dearly. She was predeceased by her father and stepmother Alton and Vivian Farnham of Penobscot; and her brother Stephen Farnham of Bucksport. Funeral services will be held on Sat March 10th, at 2pm, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St. in Bucksport. There will be a reception immediately following at The Bucksport Methodist Church, at 71 Franklin St. For those who wish, flowers may be sent directly to the funeral home.
