Obituary of Colene Astbury

DEER ISLE - Colene Astbury of Blue Hill, born May 11, 1935, peacefully passed on to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, November 20, 2017 at Deer Isle Nursing Home. Colene was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Lloyd Astbury, parents Oliver and Frances (Saunders) Cousins, sister Carolyn Howard, brother Arnold Cousins, and two granddaughters, Amy Jo McNeal and Tara Lou Astbury. She is survived by her brothers David Cousins, Oliver Cousins and wife Gale, a very special sister Sharrie Curtis and husband Barry, daughter Diane McNeal, son Perry Astbury and wife Sylvia, daughter Crystal Astbury-Norris and husband Wayne, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a close friend Susan Fenders with whom she shared many memorable moments reading the Bible and teaching Bible study. Colene was very active in her community teaching CPR for the Red Cross and volunteering many years as president and first responder for Peninsula Ambulance Core. Her passion was teaching the word of God in the many Bible study groups she attended and she rarely missed a Sunday school class she taught to the local children. Colene had a successful home laundry business, which she owned and operated for over forty years. She also worked as a personal care giver for the Nicholas Estate in East Blue Hill. Each year of the Blue Hill Fair, starting in 1954, you could always find Colene in her "Special Treats" stand selling ice cream on a stick. Colene had many hobbies including working in the garden alongside Lloyd and hardly a month went by when they weren't off on a hunting or fishing trip. She loved all kinds of crafting and was often found in her sewing room with Crystal and she really enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to knit and sew. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9th at 1:00 p.m. at the Blue Hill Baptist Church. There will be a reception immediately following at the Followship Hall.
