Obituary of Elizabeth Marie Carter

Brooklin - Elizabeth 'Betty' Marie Carter, age 95, passed away peacefully at her home on June 21, 2017. Betty was born on February 12, 1922 in Brooklin, Maine, the daughter of Willis and Ruby (Choate) Gray. Betty graduated from Brooklin High School in 1939. After graduation, she attended nursing school, married, and raised two daughters. As an LPN, Betty provided care for E.B. and Katherine White as well as others in the area. During her life, Betty was an active member of the Center Harbor Rebekah Lodge holding various positions, including Nobel Grand. She also held office in the Brooklin Alumni Association when her children were in school. Betty enjoyed square dancing, playing cards (especially cribbage), traveling with family, walking in the woods, and visiting family in Florida. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Betty was predeceased by her husband Linwood Carter who died in 2009. Betty was also predeceased by her brothers, Clyde and Rodney Gray, her sister Nellie Burton, and her beloved granddaughter, Deborah Ryan. Betty is survived by her daughters, Yvonne Bigos (fiancé Paul Robertson) of Bradenton, Florida, and Nancy Weber of Brooklin, Maine, and Hallandale, Florida; her grandson, Kyle Bigos and two great-grandchildren, Kaden and Jasmine of Bradenton, Florida. Betty will be greatly missed by her family. At her request, there will be no funeral service. Her family will hold a memorial service at the Beth Eden Cemetery at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Tree of Life in Blue Hill, Maine.
