Obituary of Marilyn Zimmerman Barnett

Marilyn Zimmerman Barnett of York, Maine, died March 31 at the age of 90. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, she later resided in nearby Fairfield, with her husband Vincent and son Alan, where she held a number of jobs over the years to include purchasing agent for W.S. Rockwell Company. Then, with her second husband Maurice, she moved to Massachusetts and in the 1970s to Maine where she worked at Wells Jr. High School as its librarian and produced a play at the high school. Later, they owned and operated the Marimor Motor Inn (today the Pink Blossom) on Shore Road in Ogunquit. Their opportunity to expand came when the old village office was to be demolished. Purchasing it for $1, they had it moved onto the Inn’s premises and converted the structure into multiple efficiency units. In her 80s, Marilyn remained active working at various Shore Road dress shops and an art gallery in Perkins Cove. She was an active member of the International Women’s Club of New England and a founding member of the Wedgwood Society of Washington, D.C. She leaves her son Alan Barnett and daughter-in-law Adele of Fairfax, VA, two grandsons, Christopher and David, 4 great-grandchildren, and her brother Norman Zimmerman of Stratford, CT. A private service will be held at a later date.
