Obituary of Elizabeth A Scribner

Elizabeth Arlene (Perro) Scribner 1932-2015 Alzheimers is a thief in the night – stealing a little more of you each day. Stealthy, one moment at a time, it is unstoppable. There is no sound because --- you’ve already gone. We love you. Pain is everywhere, thickening the air I’m breathing – touching everyone – as I mourn you – as we all do. Silence is king as day by day a little more of you dies. It’s too much to bear sometimes. Heavy is the heart that holds such sorrow. There’s confusion in your eyes where love once lived, frustration in your face because you know – we all know – deep in our marrow – you’ve already gone. Elizabeth "Liz" Arlene Scribner passed away on December 17, 2015. She was born on October 4, 1932 to John and Rosalind (Nichols) Perro of Winslow, the youngest of ten living children. She graduated with honors from Winslow High School in 1949. Liz was an accomplished pianist, trained in classical music, having studied under Arthur Roundy of Park Street Waterville, from the age of 7 until 21. In her senior year she played in the high school orchestra, and the ‘pop’ band which performed for the school dances. After graduation, she worked for the Hathaway Shirt Company in Waterville, and later at Keyes Fibre Company in Fairfield, now known as Huhtamaki. In 1954, Liz married Maurice Scribner, Jr., of Albion, Maine, with whom she celebrated 61 years of marriage in 2015, and together they raised four children. In 1979, she and her family moved to Crown Point, Indiana, because of her husband’s occupation. Her many activities there included being a Cantor and organist for St. Mathias Catholic Church in Crown Point, proofreader for the Crown Point weekly newspaper, and for one year she was the County President of the Extension Club, which is involved in homemaking suggestions and fund-raising events for charities. Liz also helped her husband with his business of industrial safety. On returning to Maine after eighteen years, she renewed her membership in the Clinton Extension Club until ill health prevented continuance. Until recently, she also contributed many knitted hats and scarves to the Home For Little Wanders. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, six sisters and four brothers. Besides her husband, she is survived by one sister, Anne Winslow of Lee, MA; three sons: Andrew of East Benton, ME, Patrick (Candice) of Morrill, ME and Martin (Jennifer) of Maricopa, AZ; one daughter, Rosalind Miller of Terre Haute, IN; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. At the family’s request, there will be no visiting hours or service, but a Mass offered for the repose of her soul will be at a later date at St. John-Christ the King Church in Winslow, ME. Her burial will be in No 4 Cemetery, Albion, ME, in the spring during a private family memorial service. Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
