Obituary of Vaughan Philbrook

Vaughan Philbrook, 83, of Lincolnville, died peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of November 10, 2010. Vaughan was born in Portland on February 27, 1927, the son of Leland and Ruth Atherton Philbrook. He grew up in Warren, attending local schools, graduating from Warren High School in 1945. On June 19, 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a Private First Class for Company C of the 313th Medical Battalion. On August 1, 1953, Vaughan married the love of his life, Gwendolyn M. Jackson. The couple resided in Warren raising their two children. Later on, in 1979, they moved to Lincolnville. Vaughan retired as Plate Shop Manager for the Maine State Prison in Thomaston, Maine. Throughout his life, Vaughan and his wife enjoyed 100,000 miles on their Harley Davidson. They also enjoyed dancing the night away. He was a 50 year member of the Masons. He loved to spend time with his family and seemed to know just about everyone. Vaughan was predeceased by his parents, and his son Larry Lee Philbrook. He is survived by his loving wife, Gwen Philbrook, his son Ron Philbrook and his wife Denise, of Warren, grandchildren, Larry V Phibrook, and his fiancé Billie Jo Eggen, of Lincolnville, Allison D Philbrook, and her companion Brandon Moody, of Appleton, and Missy L Philbrook of Warren. He is also survived by his siblings and their families: Jan Andrews and her husband Paul, Warren Philbrook and his wife Betty, all of Warren, and Cal Seeley, of Brewer, as well as many nieces and nephews, Special Friends Robby and Ginny Robinson and Bill and Jill Glover. Vaughan also leaves behind his beloved dog, Buddy. Per Vaughan’s wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Knox Center for Long Term Care, 2nd Floor, 6 White Street Rockland Maine 04841 or to the Maine Cancer Society. The family wishes to express their great appreciation to the staff at the Knox Center for the care Vaughan received during his stay.
